- Start of Cub Scout Jubilee year celebrating
60 years of Cub Scouting. The theme for this Special Year was
Link to the Future.
March 1976
- Proposal to double group subscriptions
from 5p to 10p per week.
April 1976
- Cub Pack takes part in the Spikey
Project to clear up litter on Southsea Common and at the
same time raised £6-48 for the Shelter campaign
for the homeless.
- Advertisement for Lyons Copse -
Grand Open Day - Tickets 5p each. Attractions included:
a display by the Waltham Chase Boys Motor Cycle Display team,
1st Catisfield Scout Band and a display of Dog Handling.
- Scouts have their own radio programme
called Jamboree on Radio Solent. Broadcast at 4pm
on the first Sunday of each month.
- Thanks given to the one parent who replied
to our appeal to start a parents/supports committee.
- Cub Scouts from Southsea District expected
to appear on Blue Peter to given publicity to a special
knitting project.

- Cubs earned £20-05 during Scout
Job Week.

Review - members asked for their views!
- Restarting of our Scout Troop announced
for Thursday 14th October.
November 1976
- Due to poor attendance the monthly group
Church Parade times changed from 9am Mass to 10am Mass.
- The Scout Group help out at St. Swithuns
Autumn Fair and meet up with a Mr William Casey who, it is said,
started our Wolf Cub Pack back in 1937.
- We appeal for Altar Servers for the church
and suggest that any Cub who takes on this duty can count it
for his Gold Arrow Service test.
January 1978
- Newsletter resumes after disappearing
for a year.
- Group attends a Southsea Scout District
Queens Jubilee Parade and Thanksgiving Service at the Church
of the Holy Spirit on Sunday 27th November.
- Group visited Nazareth House on Sunday
17th December to entertain the old folks with carol singing.
- Group decides to start collecting Waste
Paper to raise funds.
- The Developed Arrow Scheme
and the option for Cubs to wear long trousers introduced for
Cubs.
- In July 1977 the Cubs attend a two weeks
camp at Midhurst with the 8th Portsmouth Cub Pack.
February 1979
- £115 earned in our first year of
collecting waste paper - 6 tons 16cwts 84lbs to be exact.
- Group receives a certificate from the
BBC for taking part in Tune-A-Radio Week 23-30 November
1978. This was a scheme where members of the Scout Association
helped elderly people retune their radios after the programme
radio frequencies were changed.
- Group host a District Jumble
Sale to raise funds to help a Scout from Southsea attend the
next World Scout Jamboree.
- Cub Country - 1979 being the Year
of the Child; the Cub Scouts of England, in conjunction
with the Save the Children Fund, take part in a project to do
something for the children of Nepal called Cub Country.
March 1979
- Representatives from the Group take part
in a Parade of Uniformed Youth Organisations when the freedom
of the City of Portsmouth was given to HRH Prince Charles on
Friday 23rd February.
- New design colours (ie flags) ordered
for the Pack and Troop.
April 1979
- Group vote to wear the Kiro
badge on their uniforms. All members of a Roman Catholic sponsored
Scout Group may wear this badge.
- Annual membership/capitation fees set
at £3-80 per head - total for group £152.
May / June 1979
- Parents Committee reforms as a Group
Executive Committee.
- Canon Cogan - It is with great sadness
that we recorded the passing of our sponsor. He will always be
remembered for his extreme patience and wholehearted yet unobtrusive
support.
- Group holds a fund raising Beer
& Skittles event at The Good Companion.
- After the last church parade (which for
some reason had an extremely good turn out!) the Cubs went on
an outing to the Bovington tank museum in Dorset.
- Pack gain 3rd place in District Sports
Day and two members are selected to represent Southsea District
in the County Finals.
July 1979
- Group takes part in a Family Camp at Lyons
Copse, Shedfield. Our team called The Three Wise Monkeys
(Chil, Baloo and Chils sister) gain fist prize for making
a collage out of natural materials.
- Group raises £70 by holding a stall
at the Free Mart Fair.
- Group helps out at St. Swithuns
school Sponsored Walk and raises £25 for school funds.
November 1979
- Scouts hold Summer Camp at South Holt
Farm, Finchdean.
- Cubs attend District Fun Day at Lyons
Copse, Shedfield. The theme was Pirates and a member
of our pack (Tony Woodisse) won the competition for designing
the best flag.
- Cubs enter two teams into the District
5-a-Side Football Competition at HMS Nelson.
- Pack hosts the Annual District
Cub Scout Competition and finish in 3rd place.
- Pack collects Cub Caps for the underprivileged
Cubs in Sarawak.
May 1980
- Cubs hold a Pack Holiday at Lyons Copse,
Shedfield.
June 1980
- Cubs day out to Marwell Park to meet the
Chief Scout.
July 1980
- Cubs outing to the Fleet Air Arm Museum,
Yeoville.
August 1980
- District Cub Camp at Walton Firs Campsite,
Cobham, Surrey.
September 1980
- Cubs District outing to Robin Hill, Isle
of Wight.

- Two Cub Instructors (Chil and Hathi) presented
with their warrants and become full Leaders.

- Next years annual membership/capitation
fees due March 1981 set at £5-50 per head - total for group

January 1981
- A successful Group Open night was held
on 16th December the highlight of which was a Christmas Show
put on by the Cubs.
- On the 23rd December the pack visited
the old people in Nazareth House and invited them to sing along
in a selection of carols. Later the Cubs distributed Christmas
Cards and presented a Christmas Cake.
- Group holds its first New Years
Eve' Family barn dance.
- Cubs watch a performance of the pantomime
Red Riding Hood in HMS Nelson.
- Cubs hold a Blue Peter Bring and
Buy Sale in aid of the International Year of Disabled People
and make £45-65.
February 1981
- The Scout Association launch and appeal
for funds for their Brotherhood Fund. Considerable
money has recently been spent in donating 31 tents to the British
Red Cross Society for relief work after the Italian earthquake
last November.
March 1981
- 24 Cubs attend a special Farewell Mass
for the Sisters of Nazareth on their departure from Nazareth
House on its closure.
April 1981
- Cubs activity day at Lyons Copse, Shedfield.
June 1981
- Cubs gain first place in Southsea District
Sports - most of the team went on to County Finals at Aldershot.
- Cubs come second place to the 1st Portsmouth
Cubs in the District Rounders Competition.
- 30 of our Cubs attended our Cub camp at
Lyons Copse, Shedfield from 25 - 29th June. The weather was dreadful!
July 1981
- Cub Pack outing to Windsor Safari Park.
- 10 out of 13 Cubs gain the Cycling Proficiency
Award.
- Scout Troop restarts after a period of
closure.
- Group attends family camp at Shedfield.
Hathi, Cheri (her daughter) and Katy (Akelas daughter)
win the Make a Sunshade out of Natural Materials
competition.
- Mr John Woodisse (know to the cubs as
Kaa) is awarded the Chief Scouts Commendation for
good services over a considerable time.
September 1981
- 42 people, Cubs and friends, attended
a Bring A Friend day at Gilwell Park.
- Group sells Brite Eyes Reflectors
safety discs, a must for those dark evenings!
- Cubs attend District Day Outing to Blackgang
Chine, Isle of Wight.
October 1981
- 4 Cubs took part in the District Chess
Tournament. One of our boys was runner-up in the under 91 section
and one was the winner of the over 91 section - he went on to
the County Finals at Leckford.
- Our new Scout Troop take part in the District
Fife Trophy Competition.
- The parents of all members of the District
are urged to contact their City Councillor to protest about the
rent on our District Headquarters in Hambrook Street being increased
from £100 to £400 per annum.
- Cubs take part in District 5-a-Side Football
competition in Alexander Park.
November 1981
- Several members of the group take part
in the Southsea Scout and Guides Gangshow at the Kings Theatre.
December 1981
- Cub Pack attends a District Christmas
Fun Campfire evening at Devonshire Avenue Baptist Church.
- Cubs play a football match against the
Drayton Park young youth team.
- Another very successful 'New Years
Eve' Family Barn Dance held. A small profit of £20 was
made and given to the Church for their Appeal to help the people
of Poland.
- Cub Scout Mark Chivers came joint third
place in the County Chess finals held at Leckford.
- Scout Troop run a special Outdoor Barbecue
Night for the Cub Pack.
- Cubs and Scouts take part in District
Swimming gala.
January 1982
- The first Scout Standard Badge to be gained
by our new Scout Troop was presented to Ian McGuire.
February 1982
- Scout Troop visit HMS Hermes at the invitation
of Mr John Renel who was a serving Royal Navy Officer on the
Ship and was also attached to our Group as a Deep Sea Scout.
- Collection of Waste Paper stopped due
to its very low value.
- Weekly subscriptions increased to 30p.
March 1982
- The Cub Pack won the District 5-a-Side
Football Competition.
- 16 Scouts attend a Winter camp - it was
so cold they cut it short after 1 night!
- The Group move into our current Scout
Hut on the demolition of the Old Green Hall (Tin Church).
August 1982
- Two of our Scouts represent Southsea District
at The Burma Star Associations dedication ceremony.
September 1982
- Group takes part in Scout-About - a walk
of about 25 miles around the perimeter of Portsea Island.

- Group decides to have our own designed
T-Shirts.
- Pack gain second place in District Rounders
Tournament.
November 1982
- Pack gain first place in District under
91/2 years Chess
Competition.
- Group holds a Sponsored Quiz and raises
£60 for a Polish Charity.
- Several members of the group take part
in the Southsea Scout and Guide Gang Show.

- Another very successful 'New Years

- Pack wins the 5-a-Side Football Competition
for the second year running.

- Pack win the District Colour Competition.

- 22 Cubs attend a Pack Holiday at Park
Wood near Brighton.
- Cubs win the District Cubs Sports Day
and the Scouts gain third place in their section. This meant
that we also won the overall group trophy.

- Scouts gain second place in the Fife Trophy
Competition.

- Cubs win the District Challenge Competition.
- Membership and Capitation fees increased
to £8-50 per head.

- Two of our Scouts represent Southsea District
in the Hampshire Super-Scout Competition sponsored by Lloyds
Bank. One of them, Stephen Tierney, won the under 12 years old
competition.
- 17 Cubs attend a Pack Holiday at Park

- Cub Pack enters two teams into the District
Outdoor Cooking Competition and gain 1st and 2nd Place out of
14 teams.
- Cub Pack took part in a special Cub Scout
day at Chessington Zoo.

respective competitions at the City of Portsmouth Swimming Gala and gain joint
First Place in the overall Group Trophy for the second year running.
